Split-battery solution for optimising data centre electrical infrastructure:
A dual-stack flow battery architecture for data centres that delivers direct rack-level power while reducing cabling, switchgear, and cooling infrastructure.

This project explores a novel application of flow battery technology tailored specifically for data centre environments. The system utilises two separate sets of electrochemical stacks: an external charging array operating continuously, and an internal discharging array located within the data centre to supply power directly to server racks.
By delivering power at the rack level, this architecture significantly reduces the need for extensive electrical cabling, switchgear, and traditional power distribution infrastructure. In addition, the circulating electrolyte provides an opportunity for efficient thermal management by removing heat directly from the servers, lowering reliance on conventional cooling systems and improving overall energy efficiency.
The combined power and cooling benefits offer a streamlined, resilient, and scalable energy solution for next-generation high-performance data centres.
