Dual-Stack Test Rig #2 (DSTR) for optimising organic electrolytes for commercial flow battery applications.
Validation of ultra-low-cost organic electrolytes for flow batteries, targeting sub-$100/kWh performance in real-world condition

This project aims to assess and optimise next-generation organic electrolyte formulations capable of achieving energy storage costs below $100/kWh. Multiple electrolyte samples from leading developers will be tested under realistic operating conditions to evaluate performance, stability, and scalability.
Following successful laboratory and demonstration testing through the DSTR program, a pre-commercial trial will be deployed within Queensland University of Technology’s NBTC microgrid to validate system behaviour in a live energy environment. Positive outcomes will position the technology for commercial field trials with existing CHARG customers, accelerating the pathway toward cost-effective long-duration energy storage solutions.
